Bofill's references for Walden 7 ran deep — Roman aqueducts, Catalan Gothic vaulting, the vernacular architecture of the Mediterranean basin. The arch was his most legible quotation. Here, half-dissolved in shadow, the curved underside of one appears at the lower left of the frame: a rounded arch, terracotta-tiled like everything else, its geometry speaking across centuries. Around it, the composition is mostly darkness — deep shadow filling the recesses between the building's complex surfaces, the terracotta revealing itself only where the Barcelona sun finds an angle. A single diagonal surface catches the light at center, the ceramic tile grid visible in the brief brightness. Everything else holds in the dark. At this proximity and in this light, Walden 7 stops being a residential complex and becomes something closer to ruin — not abandoned, but ancient, as if it had always been here.
