Mid-century modernism in Venice worked within the same chromatic constraints as everything around it — the terracotta render here is in conversation with centuries of Venetian intonaco, even if the window detailing owes nothing to the Gothic or the Baroque. White-framed panels sit flush against the wall, their joins meeting at a precise interior corner that opens into a small recessed void, one triangular shadow above another, stacked like punctuation. A large diagonal intrudes from the lower right — the edge of a roof or canopy belonging to the building opposite, the city pressing in. Venice has always been a place where buildings have to negotiate with each other at very close range; even modernism here had to learn to share.
