The Neues Tempodrom traces its origins to a travelling circus tent that arrived in West Berlin in 1980 and never quite left — it became a beloved counterculture venue that outlasted the Wall, the reunification, and several rounds of urban redevelopment before the city finally gave it a permanent home near Potsdamer Platz in 2001. The permanent structure kept the vocabulary of the original: a tensile membrane roof, pulled taut over a steel armature into the pointed peaks that had always defined the building's silhouette against the Berlin sky. Here, the camera is aimed straight up from below the roofline, stripping away every trace of context — no ground, no facade, no city — until what remains is pure geometry: five white spikes rising into cobalt, their curved surfaces divided cleanly between full sun and deep shadow by a single crisp edge. The seam lines stitched across the membrane read like topographic contours, giving the otherwise graphic image just enough material texture to remind you this is fabric, not stone. A circus tent that became a landmark; Berlin has always had a talent for that particular trick.
