The Gate of Europe Towers were the first intentionally inclined skyscrapers in the world when they were completed in 1996, each shaft leaning fifteen degrees toward the other across the Paseo de la Castellana — a gateway gesture borrowed from monumental architecture and scaled up to twenty-six floors of corporate glass. The incline that makes them famous is also what makes them structurally demanding: the lean requires a massive concrete counterweight buried below the plaza, the building's center of gravity held in check by infrastructure you never see. Here a single tower fills the frame from below, its curtain wall of near-black glazing subdivided by a white structural grid overlaid with a secondary red cross that runs the full height of the visible face — the colors of the Spanish flag embedded, perhaps deliberately, in the cladding. The crop is tight enough that the tower's signature lean reads not as a trick of engineering but simply as the natural posture of something very large and very certain of itself.
