The Gate of Europe Towers were the first intentionally inclined skyscrapers in the world — twin slabs, each leaning toward the other at a fifteen-degree angle over the Paseo de la Castellana, framing an absence where a conventional tower would stand. The idea was gateway as civic gesture: a threshold marking the northern edge of Madrid's business district, where the old city gives way to the AZCA financial corridor. Here, shot from directly below and between them, the two towers separate into distinct objects — the nearer one filling the right half of the frame, its dark curtain-wall grid laced with red accent lines and silver diagonal bracing, the second tower receding smaller to the lower left, both leaning away into a flat cobalt sky with no horizon to anchor them. The top edge of the near tower is cropped just inside the frame, cutting off any sense of resolution and leaving the building mid-lean, as though caught in the act. Madrid built a gate and forgot to put a door in it.
