Xaveer De Geyter Architects designed the Provinciehuis as a bold civic statement for Antwerp — a building whose identity is carried almost entirely by its facade, a white aluminum skin punched through with a repeating field of triangular openings that give the tower an immediate graphic legibility from across the Schelde. The triangle is not a common window form, and the choice is deliberate: where a grid of rectangles would read as conventional office building, the inverted and rotated triangles introduce a restlessness, a sense that the surface is in motion. Here the facade is caught at the corner where the building turns, the flat white panel meeting the dark angular cladding of the building's flank in a hard diagonal shadow that divides the frame and sets the two surfaces in sharp relief against each other. The triangular windows, each one filled with the same saturated cobalt as the sky behind the building, read less like apertures in a wall and more like a pattern applied to a surface — somewhere between architecture and textile. Antwerp has always known how to dress.
