Xaveer De Geyter Architects clad the Provinciehuis in a skin of deep blue triangular panels — a deliberate provocation in a city of brick and sandstone, announcing a provincial government building that has no interest in blending in. The triangles are not flat: each one is faceted, so that a facade which reads from a distance as pure pattern dissolves, up close, into a field of tiny folded planes catching and deflecting light independently of their neighbors. Here the photograph finds the building's one legible edge — a vertical crease where two faces meet — and uses it to split the frame cleanly in two: the left half falling into cool charcoal shadow, the right face catching full light and turning the panels from navy to something closer to cobalt. The composition strips away every contextual anchor — no sky, no ground, no neighboring building — until what remains is closer to textile or geology than architecture. Antwerp has always known how to wear a bold color.
