Fernando Romero clad the Soumaya Museum's free-form concrete shell in roughly sixteen thousand hexagonal aluminum tiles, each one individually sized and positioned by computer to wrap a surface that curves in multiple directions simultaneously — a solution to a geometry problem that no standardized cladding system could have solved. Here the camera is pressed close enough to the facade that the building's overall silhouette disappears entirely, leaving only the tile field itself: silver-grey in the shadowed upper plane, blown to near-white where the curve catches full light, the two zones divided by a diagonal ridge that cuts across the frame like a horizon line. The black grout lines between tiles do the compositional work, their hexagonal grid bending and compressing as the surface turns, so that what reads at a glance as flat pattern reveals itself, slowly, as volume. Romero designed a building that is impossible to ignore from across Plaza Carso; this is what it looks like from close enough to touch.
