Fernando Romero clad the Soumaya Museum's free-form steel exoskeleton in roughly sixteen thousand aluminum hexagonal tiles, each one individually sized and positioned to follow a surface that curves differently in every direction — a problem that demanded computational modeling to solve and human hands to execute. Here the photograph strips away any orienting context — no sky, no street, no recognizable museum silhouette — leaving only the tile field itself, which billows across the frame like a vast metallic fabric caught mid-breath. The curve crests somewhere near the upper third of the image before falling away toward a thin sliver of white plaza at the bottom edge, and the slight variance in tile geometry from one zone to the next becomes visible only in aggregate, each hexagon subtly distorted from its neighbors in ways the eye registers as movement rather than error. It is, depending on your patience for ambition, either a building wearing its math on its sleeve or a sculpture that happened to get a roof number.
