At Muralla Roja, the sun is a design collaborator. The building's geometry — its stepped profiles, its projecting walls, its labyrinthine passages — creates shadows that are as precise and deliberate as the walls themselves, moving across the building's surfaces as the Costa Blanca day progresses. This frame catches one at its most graphic: a bold diagonal sweeping across the central pink wall, the triangular shadow as clean-edged and saturated as any painted surface in the building. To the left, a doorway opens into the dark interior of a passage. Above the wall at center, a plant makes its small appearance against the blue sky. The walls stand still while the shadows do the work.
