Every series has a color it withholds until the end. At Muralla Roja, it is yellow. Two amber-painted cubic volumes project from the coral walls — utility forms, practical objects given the same color attention as every other element of the building — their warm ochre faces catching the Costa Blanca sun at full intensity. Against the coral and pink of the walls behind them, and the deep blue of the sky above, the three tones approach something close to a primary triad: red, yellow, blue, held in tension across the frame. Bofill's color system extended even to the building's most functional elements — the rooftop infrastructure that most architects leave unpainted and forget. Nothing at Muralla Roja was allowed to be neutral. Everything was assigned a hue and made to mean something.
