Bofill's color system at Muralla Roja runs a full thermal range — from the burning reds and corals of the exterior walls, through the pinks and roses of the passages, to the cool blues of the interior recesses. This frame catches that range almost in its entirety. The coral tower on the left, its shadow face deepening to burgundy; the rose pink of the right-hand walls; the white vertical element holding the junction between them; and in the lower left, a lavender — a blue so weighted with red it marks the moment the spectrum tips from cool to warm. The deep navy sky anchors the upper right, impassive. These are not decorative choices arranged for effect. They are colors placed in relation to each other, each one making the next more necessary, the full argument of the building's palette assembled in a single frame.
