The Mirador's engineering proposition is most dramatic from this angle: the dark grey ribbed concrete of the upper block extends beyond the edge of the white tower below, its soffit a near-total black that reads as solid mass suspended over open air. The white neighborhood, its smooth stone panels glowing in the Madrid sun, rises to meet the overhang but stops short of it — the gap between them the sky plaza void, here visible only as a sliver of cobalt blue at the lower right corner. Below the cantilever, the roof terrace of a lower building catches the light, its mesh balustrade and glass panel a domestic counterpoint to the structural spectacle above. MVRDV designed the Mirador to be a landmark for Sanchinarro; from this angle it earns that claim without qualification.
