Two of the Mirador's most distinct materials meet at the sky plaza void — the flat orange render of one neighborhood and the iridescent silver mosaic tile of another — separated by a seam of near-total shadow. On the left, a hard-edged diagonal of light cuts across the orange wall like a raking beam, the geometry of the void above reducing the Madrid sun to a single, precise stripe. On the right, the mosaic tile wraps around a chamfered corner, each small square catching the light independently, the surface alive with a flickering quality the flat render across the divide entirely refuses. MVRDV made material contrast the building's primary language, and here that language is at its most compressed: two surfaces, one shadow, and the difference between them doing all the work.
