The Unité d'Habitation at Corbusierhaus Berlin was completed in 1957. Buildings don't usually wear their age this well. The color panels — still bold, still uncompromised after nearly seven decades — suggest that Le Corbusier understood something about the relationship between architecture and time that most of his contemporaries did not. Shot now, the facade reads less like a historical document than like a position still being held: the commitment to color and proportion unchanged, indifferent to the styles that have risen and fallen around it.
