Central Saint Giles makes its own drama. Here the yellow section catches direct sun while the adjacent grey turns almost entirely to shadow — the same building in the same moment, one face burning and the other extinguished. The yellow appears luminous by comparison: the fin system pulling long shadows against the warm ceramic, each horizontal louver casting a fine dark line below it. In the lower right, a diagonal of diffused light crosses the shadowed grey — the building's geometry redirecting sunlight in an unexpected direction. Piano designed for color. The sun designed for contrast. The two together make the photograph.
