The Barbican generates extraordinary shadows — the overhangs, the walkways, the complex layering of concrete conspire to produce shadow shapes as deliberate-seeming as any drawn line. Here, shadow occupies more than half the composition: a graphic mass pressing against the lit aggregate on either side, its edge sharp and architectural, carving the frame into a study in contrast. In the gap between the concrete forms, a single blue element catches the light — the only color in the photograph, a railing or frame visible just long enough to anchor the image. Without it, the picture would be only about darkness. With it, there's a conversation.
